"Seussical" review

There's something joyous in hearing a large group singing together. That joy becomes even more ethereal when it is young voices being heard. Add to that well-written and -arranged music and you've got something truly magical.
"Seussical" at the Pied Piper Youth Theater in Stormville was nothing short of a joyous experience.
Having seen the show before in other venues by other companies, I expected a loud, brash, disjointed compilation of familiar characters set to familiar music, resulting in a head-scratching, "well-I-guess-it-was-good" result. Knowing that artistic directors Bonnie & John Ryerson were at the helm, my hope was that they could pull this show up by its venerable roots and turn it into something worth watching. Knowing, also, that they were fielding this production after an intensive four week rehearsal schedule left me resting that hope on experience... PPYT shows are always inspired, and the actors in the company always give it 100%.
The result was an amazing display of young actors, expert direction, superior staging and an all-out blast of fun, emotion and, dare I say it again, joy.
In such an ensemble piece, to name the stand-out performances is dubious, because of the support they receive from the rest of the cast, and the PPYT cast is nothing if not supportive. Each role was expertly played. The vocal performances were thrilling. Blessed with phenomenal singers, as the Pied Piper group is, the company stepped up their game to deliver beyond their usual brilliance and really make this show something special.
Make time to find your way to a Pied Piper Youth Theater show. You'll see kids that will surely be the stars of tomorrow.
